Stephen Kern, 93 died Saturday September 17, 2022 at Lutheran Village of Ashland.
He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to parents Stefan and Julia (Vedej) Kern on July 30, 1929.
Steve served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954.
He had been employed at General Motors in Elyria as an electrician.
Steve married Cora Sue (Lantz) Kern on April 14, 1972. She died on May 21, 2021.
His hobbies include farming and being a pilot where he built his own airplane.
Steve leaves behind three sons; Tom (Linda) Kern, William Kern and Robert (Brandy) Kern; six grandchildren: Adam, Christine, Meredith, Heather, Dillon and Garret and a sister; Dorothy Kern.
He is preceded in death by his wife, a son; Michael and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral Service will be held Monday September 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Pastor Beryl Baum officiating. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ashland County Memorial Park where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.
