Roberta Dempsey Obituary

Roberta L. Dempsey (nee Young), 61, of Homerville, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2022, at Lodi Community Hospital. Daughter of the late Robert and Josephine (nee Giganti) Young. She leaves behind her husband Joseph Dempsey, whom she married on May 30, 1992; her son, Tony (Simrath-Leeza) Dempsey; “grand cat”, Marmalade; aunt, Mary Celia Pearson; sister, Renee (Mike) Izzo; numerous cousins, a niece and four nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She joins her aunts and uncles Isabella, Salvatore, Carmella, Gene, Perry, Nancy, and Frank in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Roberta was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 17,1960. While still in school at Berea High School (graduated 1978), she began working as a Key Punch operator at Gray Drug before moving onto Sherwin Williams. She worked hard during her time in college at Cuyahoga Community College and then Baldwin Wallace where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Computer Science. She continued her career at Centerior Energy, now First Energy, where she worked as a Business Systems Analyst/Developer writing programs that were crucial to our local power plants in making the time change for Y2K. In 2009, she took her skills to General Electric as a Senior Technical Project Manager, where she was one of the first dozen employees at the new site in Van Buren, Michigan. After many years, she moved back to a position that did not require as much travel, working at the Cleveland Clinic as an Experienced Systems Analyst and Technical Project Manager, where she eventually retired in February of 2022.

In her spare time, she was the PSR Coordinator for St. Stephen Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner since 2005. She also loved giving back her time to the Medina County 4-H program as a volunteer advisor for the Medina County 4-H Model Railroad Club. Additionally, she could always be found supporting her family’s hobby from the kitchen at the Medina County Aquarium Society events. She loved spending time with her family more than anything and looked forward to copious trips to the Florida beaches.

Her family and friends were blessed to have her in their life and to experience her love. Those wishing to visit will be able to Monday December 19, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Road, West Salem, Ohio, 44287.
