Paul L. Eicher, 93 of West Salem died March 27,2020 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster. Paul was born December 10, 1926 in Wooster, Ohio to parents Charles and Maude (Barnard) Eicher. Paul served in the US Army in World War II. He then came home to marry the love of his life of 73 years Dolores (Totten) Eicher on February 16, 1947. Paul was a devoted husband, a loving father and a dedicated farmer. Paul was very active in his community. Some of his memberships include; Congress Community Church with his wife Dolores, Congress Community Church Board, Congress Cemetery Trustee, Northwestern School Board for 12 years, the Equity Board, James Stevenson American Legion Post 499, Triple Nickel Post 555, Color Guard member at the National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio Guernsey Association, Ohio DHIA Board, Ohio Holstein Board, and Habitat for Humanity and participated in mission trips to Gulfport, Mississippi after hurricane Katrina. Some prestigious awards Paul received were the Farmer of the year from the State of Ohio in 1956 and the Ohio Department of Aging 2012 Joined Hearts in Giving Award.
Surviving Paul, are his wife, Dolores (Totten) Eicher; children: Connie Franks of Wooster, Pat (Steve) Knight of West Salem, Chuck (Sara) Eicher of West Salem and Rob (Carrie) Eicher of Boardman; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathy Wilkes; and infant daughter Barbara Ann.
Due to the current health crisis the family will be having a private family funeral on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem. Pastor Tadd Sponseller will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem. There will be Memorial Celebration of Life Service at a later date for the public.
