Donald E. & Juanita M. Hines Obituary

Donald E Hines 91 and Juanita M Hines 79 of West Salem went to be with God together on Thursday, October 29, 2020 in Ashland, Ohio. Don and Juanita were married June 8, 1974.

Donald was born to parents Elmer and Mildred (Gault) Hines on October 22, 1929 in West Salem, Ohio. He graduated from West Salem High School. Don served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Northwestern School District in 1997 after being a custodian for 40 years. In his younger years he was also a farmer. He was a member of James Stevenson American Legion Post 499, Grand Lodge of Ohio for over 60 years, West Salem Board of Public Affairs and the West Salem United Methodist Church in his youth. Don was an award-winning pie baker.

Juanita was born to parents Roy and Frances (Hein) Wisniewski on August 23, 1941 in Chardon, Ohio. She graduated from Chardon High School and Kent State University. She retired from Northwestern School District in 1999 after over 33 years in education. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem, a member of Wayne County Retired Teachers Association where she served as an officer, and volunteered at the West Salem Messenger. Juanita loved to read.

Both Don and Juanita helped with West Salem Outreach, they were 4-H Advisors for Congress Grow & Show, they enjoyed traveling to as many states and National Parks as possible. They loved attending children and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities over the years and taking care of their flower gardens.

Don and Juanita are survived by their children: Patrick (Maria) Hines of Ashland and Tim (Sarah) Hines of Waynesville and 4 grandchildren: Alex, Ben, Skyler & Gavin Hines.

Don is survived by his 3 sisters: Dorothy Dickinson, Beryl Baum and Betty (Ted) Workinger. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Robert, Eugene, Ellsworth, James, Doyle and Infant sister Margaret Hines.

Juanita is survived by her brother, Karl (Karin) Wisniewski of Chardon and Sister in Law, Cindee Wisniewski of Chardon. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Wisniewski.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 4th, 2020 from 3:00-8:00 PM at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem. Funeral Service will be Thursday November 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Matteson Funeral Home with Pastor Beryl Baum and Deacon Pete Foradori officiating. Burial in Hazzard Cemetery, West Salem where military rites will be being conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be given to Town and Country Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 175, West Salem, Ohio 44287.
