Donald G. Prochazka

Donald G. Prochazka, 94, passed away peacefully at St. Luke Lutheran Home for the Aging, North Canton, Ohio on Tuesday May 16, 2023. He was born in Berea, Ohio on December 20, 1928 to Joseph and Mary (Svetlik) Prochazka. He graduated from Berea High School in 1946. 

He worked as an airline mechanic for American Airlines in Cleveland where he met his wife Ruth Phillipson. They were married on November 6, 1947 in Steubenville, Ohio and remained married until Ruth passed away on August 31, 2013.

Don worked as a welder, neighborhood snow plow operator, automotive mechanic and service manager. He taught automotive mechanics at Midpark High School, Lorain County JVS, and retired from Medina County Career Center. 

Don moved to West Salem in 1968 to start farming. He retired from farming and trucking in 2004. He was a member of Congress Community Church, a Charter Member of Northwestern Ruritan and Ohio Farm Bureau. He also enjoyed building and running model trains and woodworking.

He is survived by his children: Don (Linda) Prochazka of West Salem, Ann (Virgil) Kline of West Salem, Linda Dahl of North Canton, grandchildren Amy Prochazka of Hilliard, OH, Alex (Tory) Prochazka of Strongsville, OH, Stacy (Rob) Hendrix of Ashland, Jenn (Charley) Bowers of West Salem, Shari (Mike) Howiler of Circleville, OH, Jana (Jeff) Rahman of Chicago, IL and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, son-in-law Manny Dahl, Brothers Gus and Lad Prochazka and Sister Esther (Susie) Ortiz. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023 @ 12:00 p.m. at Congress Community Church West Salem, Ohio with Pastor Tadd Sponseller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be directed to the Congress Community Church Scholarship Fund, 10691 Franchester Rd. West Salem, OH 44287 or to the Town & Country Fire District  P.O. Box 175, West Salem, Ohio 44287. Burial will be in Congress Cemetery at a later date.
