Della M. Sadzewicz – 93 – entered into her eternal home in the early morning hours of November 4 at her home in West Salem, Ohio. She was and will always be the core of her family. Even though she is physically gone from us, her legacy will continue to live on and on because she touched so many lives with her kindness, unconditional love and acceptance. To know this beautiful lady was to love her. You only needed to meet her once and you were drawn forever to her radiant love.
Della worked as a nurses’ aide for 26 years at Medina Hospital working much of that time on the maternity floor doing what she did best – taking care of babies and mothers. Della was a faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem and if Della was not gracing their pews on a Sunday morning, there was something amiss.
She was born to Dorothy and Chester Dawson on January 21, 1928 in Harvey, Illinois. She married Frank Sadzewicz on May 21, 1944 where one great love began! Frank and Della were devoted and consistent during 50 years of marriage and they were a glowing example to their thirteen children that carries on to this day. With thirteen children, they always made weekly time for themselves to reconnect and attend dinners and polka dances. Please know if there was a polka song playing anywhere within her earshot, Della’s foot was moving to the beat!
She is preceded in death by her husband Frank on August 23, 1994 and her son Joe on August 28, 2019.
She is survived by sons: Ralph (Rose) of Polk, OH, Bob (Janis) of Henderson, NV, Frank (Pam) of Chippewa Lake, OH, Dennis of Sheffield Lake, OH, Jim (Pam) of Glen Daniel, WV, Larry (Lyn) of West Salem, OH, John (Lori) of Mount Vernon, WA and Wally (Ila) of West Salem, OH, and daughters: Melissa (Mary) of West Salem, OH, Phyllis Dunbar of Barberton, OH, Dolly (Carl) Sadzewicz of Medina, OH and Rosanna (Edward) Music of Cape Coral, FL. In addition, Della is survived by over 200 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great - great grandchildren too many to name, but they all brought joy to her life and many smiles to her face. We are going to bring attention to just one of those grandchildren who after many, many years, shared her name and she was so overjoyed by little Della. Her pride of her family was apparent to all and the best times in her life were when she was surrounded by her loved ones.
Della enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life such as crocheting, polka music, traveling, weekly shopping trips, playing Farkle, television and desserts. She was known for her potato salad, kolacky and pigs in a blanket – our taste buds will miss the likes of those. She never asked for much and was unpretentious. Material things did not mean a great deal to her. What really mattered to her was quality time together with all those she dearly loved.
She fought many tough health battles over the years, but she was a strong warrior. Our hero. If we all could take a piece of Della Sadzewicz and spread it as far and wide and often as we could muster, this world would be a better place. Angelic was our dear Della. Farewell beautiful one…polka on! We hear the beat!
