Charles A. Dotson, age 62, of West Salem, OH, passed away at home on Monday, April 17, 2023, after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Columbus, OH on February 28, 1961 to Howard and Ruth (Martin) Dotson.
He graduated from Galion High School in 1979. He then joined and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1979 until his retirement in 2002. Technical Sergeant Dotson distinguished himself by meritorious service as a communications and Navigations Systems Specialist, 445th Aircraft Generation Squadron, Logistics Group, 445th Air Lift Wing – Wright Patt Air Force Base. His distinctive accomplishments reflected great credit upon himself and the Untied States Air Force. After his Air Force retirement, he began working in 2002 for NOAA – National Weather Service in Dodge City, KS; Tulsa, OK; and then in Cleveland, OH. until his retirement in December 2020. While working for NWS he received numerous awards, including the National Weather Service Isaac M. Cline Award at the National level.
Chuck was a strong, hard working and humble man who loved his family and friends. He would do anything to help others. He was a true handy – man, avid sports fan of the Buckeyes, Browns, and Indians. He enjoyed being around his family and friends, traveling and most of all, he absolutely loved his cats. He will be deeply missed by all.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Darla (Johnson) Dotson; step-son, Logan Fetters; step granddaughter, Aubrey Fetters; sister, Bambi (Matt) Beck of Illinois; sister – in – law, Michelle Dotson of Lucas; special niece, India Dotson of Deleware, OH; mother – in – law, Pat Johnson; two sister – in – laws, Deb Novak, Denise (Marty) Sis; Brother – in – law, Dave (Darcy) Johnson, all of Nebraska. Many dear relatives and very close special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruth Dotson; brother, Howard Dotson; father – in – law, Carl Johnson.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date as cremation has taken place.
