William R. Fraunfelter went home to his Saviour and Lord on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He came to know the Lord as his Saviour at a young age and was a true man of strength and faith in Christ Jesus that showed daily in his life. He was a member of Truth Baptist Church, West Salem. He was born August 8, 1927 to Maretta (Hadley) and Walter Fraunfelter in Jeromesville, Ohio. William married his wife Ruth (Trapp) Fraunfelter on August 17, 1957; she preceded him in death in 1987. William leaves behind many loving friends in both Ohio and West Virginia who meant a lot to him especially Norma Lance. William is survived by daughters: Karen Poling of St. Mary’s, WV; Sharon Swanson of Ashland, Ohio; Cheryl (Michael) Becker of West Salem, Ohio; also 6 grandchildren; Jason Poling of Cutler, Ohio; Lindsey Poling of Morgantown, WV; Benjamin (Megan) Swanson of Nankin, Ohio; Brandon (Cassie) Swanson of Sullivan, Ohio; Justin Becker and Cameron Becker of West Salem, Ohio; along with 6 great-grand children; a sister Eileen Herr of Medina, Ohio. William was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Paul Fraunfelter, Ruth Strang, Glenna Dague, Bonnie (Thompson) Daughty, and Leroy Fraunfelter. William’s hobbies included woodworking, antiques, and going to auctions. He served in the Navy from 1945 – 1949 on the USS Cleveland naval ship then moved to Arizona after the service. He served as a fire fighter in rural protection and worked in construction at the Carpenters’ Local Union while in Arizona. William later moved to Ashland, and finally settled in West Salem, Ohio where he lived most of his life, before going to live with his daughter in West Virginia for the last several years. William worked at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio for over 32 years as a prison guard, maintenance supervisor, and carpenter instructor before retiring in 1986. He served as an Ohio State Highway Auxiliary Patrolman for 25 years out of the Ashland Highway Patrol Post. He was a 32nd degree Masonic Mason at the West Salem Masonic lodge, a member of the American Legion Post 88 of Ashland and James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem, Ohio. Masonic services will be on Sunday at 2:00 pm. at Matteson Funeral Home, West Salem, Ohio. Visitation will be 4-6 on Sunday at the Northview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Wooster. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Northview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 3464 Burbank Rd., Wooster, Ohio with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Jeromesville Cemetery where military rite will be conducted. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in William’s name to Truth Baptist Church, PO Box 96, West Salem, Ohio or Maple Lane Freewill Baptist Church, 11862 Hebron Rd., St. Mary’s, WV 26170.
