Velvie (Mullins) Lewis, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Wadsworth, Ohio. Born in Sutton, WV on September 8, 1935 to John and Ina Mullins. Velvie lived most of her adult life in West Salem, Ohio. She retired from JBR in West Salem. Velvie was best known by her friends and family for her baking, especially her homemade rolls and Christmas cookies. Velvie loved celebrating holidays with family and friends and working in her flower gardens.
Velvie married Elmer Scott Lewis on May 23, 1953. She is survived by her three children, Steve (Judy), John (Holly) and Robin (Rick) Farnsworth, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Rita Carr of New York and Sylvia (Stacy) Schiefer of WV, brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Ann) Lewis, sister-in-law Mary Lewis of WV and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Scott, her grandson Christopher Burlingame and sisters Vilet and Myrtle.
Graveside services only will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 2:00PM located at the West Salem Cemetery with Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, Wooster at 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691. Matteson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
