Thomas J. Boatner, 85 of Wooster went home to be with the Lord on Wed. February 20, 2013 at  Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland.
Funeral services will be Saturday February 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Pastor Mark McCord officiating. Friends will be received on Sat from 12-2 at the funeral home prior to the services. Burial in Congress Cemetery where military services will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or Donor of your choice.

He was born October 1, 1927 in Wellington, Texas the son of Thomas E & Lillie (Williamson) Boatner.
He was a veteran who served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He retired in 1999 from The Gerstenslager Co. after 52 years of service and worked for the Wooster Daily Record for over 30 years as a rural route carrier.
Tom had been active with the Boy Scouts in West Salem and supported many charities and fundraising events. Tom enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting and school events and was proud of their accomplishments. Tom was also an OSU Buckeye fan and enjoyed  football Saturdays in the fall.  He was a generous and giving husband, father and grandfather and never missed a holiday, birthday, anniversary or special event.  He attended the Highland Church of God in Wooster and West Salem Methodist Church.  He was a spiritual man and committed to his faith.
He is survived by Margaret (Billheimer) Boatner whom he married Oct. 16, 1948, two daughters- Beth (Nat) Russell of Powell and Lynn (Geof) Bednar of Smithville, four grandchildren, Shane, Madison, Scott and Garrett, a sister, Bonnie Crumley of West Salem and a brother Gene (Marilyn) Boatner of West Salem.
His parents, two brothers and three sisters died previously.
The family would like to thank North Central Ohio Hospice and Akron Summa Palliative Services for their support and care over the last week.
