Susan M (Smith) Morris

Susan Mae Morris was born to Nina and Wilbur Smith in West Salem on November 12, 1932. She died at Avenue at Wooster in the care of LifeCare Hospice. She graduated from West Salem High School in 1950, and as a registered nurse from the Ashland Samaritan School of Nursing in 1953.

She was married to Weldon (Woody) Morris on August 22, 1953. They had three children: Diana Tennant, Glenna Morris (Ron Fross), and Brett (Brenda) Morris. She is also survived by one grandson; Cody (Karmen) Tennant, and great-granddaughters; Alysa and Rosie, Twin brothers; Bob and Bill (Annette) Smith; nieces and nephews.

Sue enjoyed working as a nurse especially in pediatrics which she did at Wooster Community Hospital and for Dr. Roger Moyer at the Wooster Clinic. She also held other positions in nursing homes, doctor’s offices and at the Ashland Samaritan Hospital. She worked in Florida as a visiting nurse when she went to care for her mother in 1983, and as a volunteer at Viola Startzman Clinic after she retired.

Her special enjoyments were reading, spending time with her dogs, and gardening. In her last two years Bob Taylor brought his dog, Mandy, and Sue’s “old” dog Joey III to visit nearly every day which was the highlight of her day.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, son-in-law Jerry Tennant; brothers Eugene (Eloise), Herbert (Helen) and sister-in-law Janice Smith. The Funeral Service for Sue will be held at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, Ohio on Monday February 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Christopher Stewart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery.
