Robert L. Pritt

Robert L. Pritt passed away on September 24, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 20, 1952, in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia to parents; Weitzel and Cora (Walden) Pritt.

Robert was a hardworking man who built a life centered on family, faith, and the satisfaction of honest work. He worked 31 years at Permold Industries, Halsted, and also spent 15 years with Friction/Carlisle. He attended Brunswick High School and later earned his GED, an accomplishment that reflected his determination and steady commitment to moving forward.

He also found great joy in the simple and meaningful things of life. Robert attended the West Salem United Methodist Church. He loved being in his favorite place, his garage, where he could fix nearly anything and create many things with his hands. Those who knew him will remember his gift for storytelling and his gift of laughter. He delighted in teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always with a glint of mischief in his eyes and a dry sense of humor. His playful sayings, including “Hip Hip Cheerio Matel!” and “Ello Gov’nor!,” brought smiles to those around him. He especially enjoyed encouraging the grandchildren to pester their grandmother until she would finally yell and everyone would laugh together. He was also known for sharing his “Life Lessons,” moments of humor and wisdom that will remain with his family for years to come.

Above all, Robert was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Diane (Perry) Pritt. He also leaves his children, Robert Pritt II of West Salem, Daniel Pritt of West Salem, and Teresa Green and her husband, William Jr., of Lodi, Ohio. His family continued to grow through the generations, and he took special joy in each of them.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Pritt, Samantha Kurzenberger and her husband, Edward II, Cora Green, Cheyenne Hoert, Sara Green, and Savannah Boyd and her husband, Augustus. His great-grandchildren are Madison Pritt, Chloe Lycans, Blake Kurzenberger, Jasper Green, Grayson Kurzenberger, Wyatt Hite, Kaylynn Hite, Anastasia Hoert, Aria Boyd, Aspen Himes and Adley Boyd. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Whisman and her husband, Douglas, brothers-in-law Clayton Young and Estle Hamilton, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, all of whom were part of the wide circle of family he cherished.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Weitzel Pritt; his mother, Cora (Walden) Backus; and his step-father; Walter Backus. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tara Green; his sisters, Mattie Kincaid and her husband, Garry, Dessie Morris and her husband, Roland, Roberta Young, JoEtta Hamilton, Arlene Perdue and her husband, James, and Ruth Pritt; and his brothers, Charles Pritt and his wife, Chubetta, and Walter Vernon Backus and his wife, Christine.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Street, West Salem 44287. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at West Salem Cemetery, Depot Street, West Salem 44287. A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at West Salem United Methodist Church, 80 East Buckeye Street, West Salem, OH 44287 with Pastor Michael Namy officiating.
