Robert Durbin

February 20, 1925 — January 1, 2013

Robert Durbin, 87, of Spencer,Ohio, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange,Ohio
following a period of declining health.
Robert was born on February 20, 1925 in Estill County, Kentucky to Ed and Mary (Medcalf) Durbin. He was preceded in death by his
parents, three brothers and one sister.
Robert was the beloved husband of Anna M. (Dixon) Durbin to whom he married on May 20, 1949. She survives. He was a loving
father to Debra A. Durbin of Spencer, Kenneth F. Durbin and Barbara J. (Bud) Workman of West Salem. He was the
much loved and respected grandpa to Tonya (Shane) Simpson, Billy (Melanie) Workman, Robert (Jessica) Workman, Andrew (Tara) Workman,
Stephen (Julia) Workman, David (Vanessa) Workman, Daniel (Julia) Workman and Nicholas Workman. Robert had a special relationship with
each of his grandchildren that they shared and cherished. He had 16 great-grandchildren whom he called "kiddos". Throughout his lifetime,
Robert had many beloved dogs. He was an avid reader and loved many genre's of music.
Robert had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savoir in 1962 and was a long time member of Truth Baptist Church in West Salem.
Robert was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant having served during World War II.
After the war, he had a varied career which included being a brakeman for the railroad, a city Policeman and also a Kentucky State Policeman.
After moving to Ohio, he worked for the Electrolux Corp.  Then he started a very successful career as a Regional Manager for Royal Appliance
Mfg. Co. After retiring from Royal, he and his daughter, Debra, owned and operated AA Vacuum Cleaner World in Elyria from 1986 until
2007. After selling the business, he enjoyed his free time at their home in Spencer.
You will be greatly missed by all your family and friends.  We love you and are looking forward to when we will be reunited in Heaven.

Funeral services will be Monday January 7, 2013 @ 11:00 a.m. at the Truth Baptist Church in West Salem with Pastors Brad Ingram and Mike Workman officiating.  Friends will be received at the Matteson Funeral Home Sunday afternoon 3:00 to 5:00 and one hour prior to the services.  Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.  On line obituary and condolence may be shared at the funeral home website @ www.mattesonfh.com.  Memorials may be given to the Truth Baptist Church, 12457 North Elyria Road, West Salem, Ohio  44287
