Richard Junior Ferrell

Richard (Dick) Junior Ferrell, 84 of Wooster, Ohio went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2023, at his home. Richard was born to parents William and Elsie (Miller) Ferrell on February 16, 1938 in Chester, Ohio located in Meigs County. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1956. Soon after graduation he married his highschool sweetheart, Karen Jean (Peacock) Ferrell on August 2nd, 1959. In 1962 he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. After the service he worked at Diebold in Wooster, where he retired from in 1985.

Richard was a former member of Garden Tractor Pullers Association for over 30 years where he was known as the oldest puller and still winning. Prior to the tractor pulling he drag raced at Dragway 42 from 1956 – 1962 where he had three different cars he raced. His favorite being his 50 Chevy Coupe.  Richard was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, especially deer. When in high school, he won the Walter Mowrer Award for his excellence in sports. He spent five summers as the little league coordinator and coach for Northwestern. He also followed Northwestern High School Sports.

Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Ferrell; children: Rod Ferrell, Barbara (Richard) Baron and Kim (Scott) StClair; grandchildren: Andy, Seth, Heather, Emily, Dakota, Brett, Ally and Cade; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and one brother, Charlie Ferrell. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.

The Funeral Service for Richard will be on Friday, January 20, 2023, starting at 1:00 PM, at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, Ohio. Pastor Paul Bartholomew will be officiating the service. Visitation will be on Friday 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery following the service.
