Raymond Kusa

August 6, 1927 — July 17, 2025

Raymond Kusa, born August 6, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Raymond lived a long and full life marked by dedication to family, faith, and hard work.

In 1966, Raymond moved from North Royalton, Ohio, to West Salem, where he spent most of his years caring for his farm and enjoying the peace of rural life. After retiring, he spent his winters in Interlachen, Florida.

Raymond’s life was one of service and strength. At 18, he joined the Merchant Marines in 1945, traveling the world during a time of great uncertainty. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany Following his military service, he worked for Cleveland Tool, then later in his career he worked for U.S. Steel in Cleveland where he then retired from also while maintaining his farm – a testament to his tireless work ethic and determination.

He was a man of deep Catholic faith and steady conviction, and a longtime member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Interlachen, Florida. He found joy in polka music, woodworking and watching racing. He was proud of his heritage, his work, and the life he built with his beloved wife, Angeline Kusa (Woods), whom he married in 1957. They shared many happy years together before her passing on December 4, 2023. Also preceding him in death are two brothers Donald Kusa and Louie Kusa.

Raymond is survived by his children: Debbie (Rick) Spake, Louis (Laura) Kusa, Diann Hylton, and Pati Byers; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. His love and quiet strength will be remembered always.
