Phyllis Ann (Pifer) Costello (June 1, 1939 – September 2, 2025)
Phyllis Ann Pifer Costello, 86, of Brunswick, Ohio, died peacefully with her loving
husband at her side on September 2, 2025.
She was born in Parsons, West Virginia in 1939 to Frank and Mildred Pifer. Phyllis Ann
graduated from Parsons High School before moving from West Virginia to Ohio.
Phyllis Ann who had no plans to marry or have children met the love of her life, Floyd
Costello in 1971 through Don and Lois Gray of Hanoverton, Ohio. At the time of their
meeting her future husband was finding his way having recently been discharged from
the Navy. Phyllis Ann had faith and somehow knew this young kid from Shallmar,
Maryland was her soulmate. She believed in Floyd Jr. and their future path together.
Over the next 55 years Phyllis Ann and Floyd sought and lived a life as disciples of
Christ. Phyllis Ann supported her husband through college and seminary being the
ultimate preacher’s wife serving churches throughout the West Ohio and Northeast Ohio
United Methodist Conferences. Her special gift through these years of serving others
was being by her husband’s side to comfort those in mourning, celebrate new
beginnings, and fellowshipping with friends near and far. While Floyd was studying,
teaching and preaching Phyllis Ann was focused on her career as a dietician to further
her professional growth and support the family. She held jobs at the Dorothy Love
Nursing home and Canton Christian home, caring for individuals and their dietary
requirements.
While life certainly changed in 1971 with the meeting of her future husband, it changed
radically in 1973 with the birth of “The Twins”. Shawn Terri and Shannon Sherri were
born prematurely on May 8, 1973. Each weighing in at an impressive 4 and 3 pounds
once they arrived home life was non-stop with two very active children ready to
challenge their parents. Phyllis Ann spent the better part of nine years fully devoted to
raising “The Twins”. She enjoyed every minute never wanting summers to end and the
“The Twins” returning to school.
Aside from caring for her husband and “The Twins” her passions were growing
vegetables in her gardens, cooking and baking. Known for her pie crust, always
homemade dinners and peanut butter cookies she was gifted in feeding her clan,
whoever that might be on any given day.
Phyllis Ann was blessed with two grandchildren. Claire Grace Costello and Brittany
Marie Teems.
