Nyla E Kovalik

Nyla (Deer) Kovalik, 83 years old of West Salem, Ohio passed away on September 20, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1943 in Wooster to parents Fred & Mildred (Condry) Deer. Nyla graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962. She married Paul Kovalik October 14, 1973.

As a child she was a 4-H member in Wayne County, showing horses and Holstine dairy cattle and then when she became an adult, she was a 4-H advisor in Medina County. She also served on the Jr. Fair Livestock Committee for many years. Before marrying her husband, Paul and starting their family together show worked for Rubbermaid for 11 years. Then after they got married, she gladly helped on Paul’s family dairy farm. She managed the book work for the dairy farm and Kovalik Sawdust for most of the 53 years.

Nyla and Paul have two grown children, twins; Christy (Kevin) McConahay and Donny (Michelle) Kovalik; four grandchildren; Brandy, Colton and Mackenzie McConahay and Catter Kovalik.

Nyla is survived by her husband, Paul and children, Christy and Donny of West Salem.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Marjorie Yoder; brother-in-law, Paul Yoder and a niece and nephew.

In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made out to the sales committee for the Jr. Fair Livestock Scholarship in Medina County.

Visitation for Nyla will be Sunday September 27, 2026 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, Ohio 44287. The funeral will be the following day Monday, September 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM with an additional hour of visitation before the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. There will be a meal following the service at the Lodi Community Church, 9701 Congress Road West Salem, Ohio.
