Michael E Miller

Michael Edward (Mike) Miller, 76, of West Salem, passed away Saturday December 5, 2020 at The Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland following an extended illness.

Mike was born in Akron, Ohio on January 12, 1944 to parents Marcus and Isabelle (Caddis) Miller, who preceded him in death.  Mike was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University with a master’s degree in agriculture.  He began his career at the OARDC, as well as being a vocational agriculture teacher.  He spent 30 years as a 4H and agriculture agent for the Medina County Cooperative Extension Service where he was known as the “Answer Man.”  Mike was dedicated to serving local 4H clubs and their young members in Medina and Wayne County, advising for several clubs his daughters were active in.  His faith was important to him, and Mike faithfully attended NorthWinds Church with his family, and formerly Grace Church in Wooster.  Mike enjoyed trap shooting, gardening, his antique John Deere tractor, Buckeyes football, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also trained and showed Shetland Sheepdogs successfully with his family for many years.

Mike is survived by daughters Kerry (Anthony) Greer and Megan (James) Cho; brother John “Jack” (Joyce) Miller and sister Bethann Bennett; grandchildren Kaitlyn Greer, David Cho, and Maria Cho; and great-granddaughter Skarlett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Matteson Funeral Home, West Salem, Friday 12/11/20 from 5-7 pm.  Services will be held at NorthWinds Church, West Salem, at 11 am Saturday 12/12/20, with Pastor Dave Purdy officiating.  NorthWinds Church will offer live streaming of the service from their website for those unable to attend in person due to the current health crisis.  Interment will follow at Congress Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mike’s honor be made to Focus on the Family (800-A-FAMILY and mention making a memorial gift), or to the Wayne County Humane Society.
