Martha J. Ewing, 80, of Burbank, earned her angel wings at her home, September 23, 2014 following a two year battle of multiple myeloma with her family by her side.
She was born August 16, 1934 in Orrville to Ward J. & Ruth L. (Becker) Bechtel. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, James G. Ewing on August 15, 1953 and they had recently celebrated sixty one years together. They are the parents of five daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Becker, Marcia (Floyd) Cornelius both of Wooster, Beth (Chuck) Cutter of West Salem, Susan (Charly) Dunn of Burbank, and Mindy (John) Huber of Portland, Texas. She has eighteen Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren. She has two sisters Louise (Lowell) Bowers and Florence Oldaker, a brother Jacob (Grace) Bechtel and a brother-in- law, Robert B. (Helen) Ewing and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ward & Ruth Bechtel, her in-laws, Robert W and Dorothy Ewing, a brother, Richard Bechtel, a son-in-law, Chuck Cutter and several brother/sister-in-laws.
Martha had previously worked at Country Acres Restaurant and J C Penney Co in Wooster, but considered her role as Wife, Mother and Grandma her most important job. Not only was she talented at nurturing her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed her flowers in her gardens. She faithfully attended all of their school and sporting events and recently modeled at the Ohio State Fair her outstanding award winning outfit sewn by her Granddaughter Courtney. She had a warm smile and a heart of Gold, always thinking of others before herself. She served her family and community well with her Angel Food Cakes during a time of need and celebrations, a tradition she carried on from her mother.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Wayne Presbyterian Church at 7152Burbank Rd., Wooster, Ohio from 5-8 pm and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Robert Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be at the Ewing Family Cemetery. Matteson Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
