On April 8, 2015 the world lost a shining light. Maggie Johnson, 66, of West Salem passed away following a short illness in Medina, OH.
She was born in Chicago, IL in 1949. She graduated from Lincoln University, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Washington. After serving in professional positions in several states, Maggie moved to Wayne County upon retirement from the faculty of the University of Kentucky in 2002. She was ardent volunteer throughout the county. She served 6 years on the Wayne County Library System Board of Trustees, was a cook for the St. Stephens Meals and More weekly community outreach program, was a library volunteer, and served as needed as an election poll judge and observer.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Christina Lovasz of St. Louis, MO and her brother John Lovasz of Round Hill, VA. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Terry Johnson of West Salem, her sister Linda (Paul) Barragry of Cedarburg, WI, her brother Craig Lovasz of St. Charles, MO, her sister Tracy (Ted) Sator of Innsbrook, MO, sister-in-law Stephanie (John) Lovasz of Round Hill, VA, and 7 nieces and nephews. Additionally and significantly, she is survived by a multitude of people whose lives she touched and made better.
Maggie was known for her effervescent personality, her good humor and her infectious smile. She was inspirational to her fellow volunteers and truly caring for those she served.
One of Maggie's goals was to feed hungry people.  In that spirit, memorial contributions may be made to the West Salem Outreach Food Pantry, P.O. Box 257, West Salem, Ohio  44287.
