Kenneth Rae Wellert

August 3, 1940 — February 15, 2025

Kenneth (Ken) Rae Wellert, 84, of Wooster, died Saturday at Life Care Hospice in Wooster after a short illness. He was born in Elyria, Ohio, to Herman and Lucy (nee Lang) Wellert on Aug. 3, 1940. He graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1958. In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Marian Mae Hecock. He worked as a mechanic and equipment operator at C.P. Gilgenbach Company, Burkhart Construction and as a partner at Wellert’s Mechanics and Wellert's AC Parts. He was a Highway Patrolman with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 10 years. Mr. Wellert was an active member of Mohican Church in West Salem, serving on various church committees and in the Men's Bible Study group. As a mechanic, he loved tinkering, building and restoring older cars and trucks. Mr. Wellert also enjoyed tractor pulls and spent many years pulling and watching his sons and grandsons pull as well.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marian M. Wellert; 5 children, Kim R. (Sherri) Wellert - West Salem, Vicki L. (Michael) Welch - Germany, Craig R. (Carrie) Wellert - West Salem, Debora R. Schaefer - West Salem, and Holly R. (Doug) Hottel - Wooster; 22 Grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman & Lucy Wellert, a brother, Robert L. Wellert and a daughter-in-law, Laurie J. (Dudte) Wellert. Services will be held on Sat. 22 Feb. 2025 at 09:00 am at Mohican Church with Pastor Paul Bartholomew officiating.
