Kathryn Kelling - Owen

Kathryn “Kay” Kelling – Owen 87, died on December 16, 2025 at McMullen Assisted Care in Loudonville, Ohio. She was born May 17, 1938 to parents Clifton and Eleanor (Knoble) McDowell in Elyria, Ohio. She graduated from Firelands High School. Kay worked at Buehler’s in Wooster. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. From the fruits of her labor she canned the vegetables for her family and made flower arrangements for everyone to enjoy. Kay was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem for many years where she was very active. One of her favorite things was to share her gift for flower arranging by making the arrangements for the church and singing in the choir.

Kay leaves behind six children: Darlene K. (Lon) Heighland, Tim L. (Luann) Kelling, Gail D. (Bob) Nelson, Mark R. (Beth) Kelling, Jamie P. (Laura) Kelling and Don W. (Tracy) Kelling; daughter- in- law, Machell Kelling; step-children: Butch (Sandy) Owen, Fred (Jackie) Owen, Trilla (Don) Watt and Linda Rose; sisters: Betsy (Tom) Wheeler and Lynne Temple; many grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; Harold Owen, a son Christopher P. Kelling and step daughter Mary Drane.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 21, 2025 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress St. in West Salem. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem with Father Jim Winnings officiating. Burial in West Salem Cemetery.
