Kathryn F. Gallagher, 93, of West Salem, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland. She was born March 21, 1919, in Union City, Ohio the daughter of Ira & Lillian (Myers) Fryman.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan 23, 2013, at 11:00AM, at the Matteson Funeral Home, in West Salem, with Pastor Matt Potosky officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Woodland Cemetery, in Dayton, Ohio. Online condolences may be shared at the funeral website, www.mattesonfh.com.
Kathryn loved gardening and was active in the Polk Garden Club. She had a variety of hobbies, and took home many blue ribbons from the Ashland County Fair for her creative achievements. Among her favorite activities were watercolor painting, cake decorating, working in clay, doll-making, candy-making, and flower arranging. She made Christmas candy for friends and decorated Easter eggs for the children in her church. She attended the Albion Brethren Church for many years and was active in the Women’s Guild, and always involved in special church projects such as quilting. She was also active in the local Seniors group and 50 Plus.
When raising her children she was an active Girl Scout leader who nurtured a prize winning troop for selling Girl Scout cookies for which they won a trip to Washington. She loved to travel wherever and whenever she had the opportunity--from Europe, to Hawaii, to California, to Nova Scotia, and in between. She also loved entertaining her friends and family.
Kathryn is survived by her son, Brian Gallagher, and her daughter, Caroline Stark, her grandchildren, Erica, Jay, and Jamie Jonathan, and her great-grandsons, Jack, Luke, and Tesher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Gallagher, and her nine sisters and brothers.
