John Jacob Scheiring

John Jacob Scheiring, 75, of Spencer, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, June 6, 2024. After a long illness.

John was born August 23, 1948 in Cleveland to Joseph and Mary Scheiring.

John ran a successful company, Westfield Landscaping, for over forty years. He owned and enjoyed three antique cars. He loved donkeys, owned two, and two goats, and had an obsession with wanting to own a monkey, and having it live in our house. Needless to say, the monkey idea didn’t fly with me.

John was a savvy business man. Sharp minded and always thinking ‘outside the box’ when it came to making money. He had a quick humor and a sharp tongue. If you made him mad, get ready because he was going to tell you exactly what he thought of you, unfiltered. John was a loyal man, strong in character, courageous, and true to his family and friends. He was a modern day ‘Crocodile Dundee,’ He always wore his cowboy boots, blue jeans, white t-shirts, and sunglasses. He always used to say ‘Real men don’t wear shorts!’

Whenever we went to weddings, parties, or any get together he would make the most outrageous, shocking statements. If you were offended, quite frankly he didn’t care. People would flock around him because he was so funny and different. You never knew what he was going to do, or say next. If John liked you, he liked you, if he didn’t, you knew it because he would tell you exactly what he thought of you. He was quite a character and will be missed and loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara, his parents, Joe and Mary Scheiring; his son, Toby; and his brother, Joe.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sister-in-laws, Scherry Gaugler, Theresa (John) Metek, Crystal Hervey; nephews, Brandon, Shon, Rick Gaugler, Brian (Rachel) Gaugler; nieces, Shannon (John) Lees, Misty (Dave) Karickhoff; his nephews,  Nathan;  Austin (Erica and Cole), Coty (Mary, Skylar and Autumn), Austin (Libby and Quinton), Logan (Amanda and Zeek) Lovejoy, Joey (Zeb) Lovejoy, Jordon Lees, Kayti (Beau, Bryer and Kade), Ryah, Dakota, Addi, Charlie David, Tiffany (Billy) Bowes (Chole and Evan), Josh (Tawna) Shroyer (Jaxon and Jayce), Seth, Jared, Hannah (Ezra) and Emma.

Saturday, June 15, 2024 visitation will be from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. The Memorial Service will start at 2 p.m. at Souls Harbor Apostolic Church located at 80 West Buckeye Street, West Salem, Ohio. The gravesite service will be private. In lieu of flowers, John would appreciate that donations be made to the Medina County SPCA, 8790 Guilford Road, Seville, Ohio 44273.
