West Salem – James A. Wright, 86, of West Salem died Saturday August 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 2, 1924 in Masury, Ohio to the late Robert & Mary Wright. He served with the 586th Signal Corp in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was honorably discharged.  He was a 1951 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Doctor of Optometry degree. Dr. Wright was in private practice in West Salem from 1959 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of James Stevenson American post 499 of West Salem.
On June 17, 1949, he married Marjorie Haun, she preceded him in death on May 16, 1992.
Surviving are his children, Robert (Carol) of West Salem, Margaret (Craig) Mast of West Carrollton, Ohio, John (Rene’) of Avon, IN, David of Dayton, Ohio, Cathy (Tom Ewing) Cooper of Shreve, and William (Wendy South) of Ashland, Ohio. A son, Craig died previously. He leaves thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Edgar. His sister, Mary Elizabeth (James) Donaldson of Vienna, Ohio survives.
Friends may call at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, Ohio on Monday August 15, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm or one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Funeral service will be August 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Martha Mathatas officiating.  Burial will be in West Salem Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Greater Wayne County at 2525 Back Orrville Road Wooster, OH  44691. On line obituary and condolences may be shared at the funeral home’s website at www.mattesonfh.com.
