James L. Miley, 77 of West Salem passed away early Monday morning, December
17th, 2012 at Wooster Community Hospital, Wooster, Ohio.
Jim was born January 1, 1935 to Carl and Helen Miley. He lived most of his life
in Chester Twp, Wayne County. He graduated from Northwestern High School in
1953 and from the Ohio State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in
Agriculture. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity. He came home
every spring quarter to help farm. He was a member of New Pittsburg St. Peter
Lutheran Church.
He was married March 24, 1959 to Jane Whitmore in Burbank by the Rev. Charles
Stevens. Together Jim and Jane began a lifetime of dairy farming on his home
farm where they continue as Miley Holstein Farms Ltd., now including their
families.
Jim was a long time member of Northwestern Ruritan, District 7 Holstein Club,
Ohio and National Holstein Assoc., Farm Bureau, Northwestern FFA Alumni and
Friends. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Town & Country
Co-op, West Salem Equity, Ohio DHIA, District 7 Holstein Club and Panda Preschool of New Pittsburg. He was a Chester Twp Trustee and served many years on the Wayne Co. ASC committee.
Jim is survived by his wife Jane, sons Joe (Diana), Jon (Amy) of West
Salem, Julie (Shawn) Miller of Bellevue, and Jackie (Wayne) Russell of Sheldon
Springs, VT. He enjoyed the time spent with his eight grand children; Jason and Anna Miley, Adam and David Miley, Leah and Hallie Miller, and Shayley and Ben Russell.
Siblings are Kathy Purdy of Glen Ellyn, IL, Betty Chavis of Fullerton, CA and
Jean (Phil) Keener of West Salem. He is also survived by Brother-In-Law & Sister-in-law Tom & Jeanette Loy of West Salem and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. A private family graveside
service is planned, with Pastor Melvin Kirk presiding. Family and friends are invited for an informal gathering at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 9451 Ashland Road Wooster, OH from 1-3 pm Thursday, December 20, 2012.
