West Salem – Hazel M Gortner, 90 of West Salem peacefully passed away Monday December 5, at Wooster SubAcute
Services will be Thursday Dec. 8 at 11:00 am at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Pastor Bill Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in Mohican Church of the Brethren Cemetery, West Salem.
Friends may call Wed Dec 7 from 5 – 8pm at the funeral home or one hour prior to the services
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a religious organizations or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Hazel was born Jan. 18, 1921, to Boyd I and Mabel L (Ickes) Bowman and married Harland Gortner on Sept. 28, 1941,
She had lived all her life in the Lattasburg area, except for two years 1944-46 while living in Roanoke, VA. She had been a resident of Country Pointe/Wooster Sub Acute the last 8 years. She had farmed with her husband and in later years worked at the Wooster Community Hospital. She attended Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are sons Richard (Suzanne) Gortner, Roger (Susan) Gortner, of West Salem, Ronald (Kathryn) Gortner of Wooster, sister Lucille Shriver of Wooster.9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband Harland, parents Boyd and Mabel, infant sister, sister Evelyn, and brother Russell
