Notice to one and all-
Gary R Pope, husband, father, and good friend to many, passed away after a long hard fight against COPD surrounded by his loving family.   The last round was called a draw by our Lord and referee on July 11, 2015 at 2:07PM.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Bannerman)Pope, and children:  Cresanne (David) Sollenberger,  Bethany Skatzes, Clayton (Gail) Pope, and Daniel (Doreen) Pope; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Savannah and Melissa Skatzes, Amber and Glen Pope, and Megan Pope.  Gary was preceded in death by parents, Glen and Elizabeth Pope, sister, Jean (Larry) Van Nostran, and brother David L Pope.
Gary, 80 years old, was born December 20, 1934 in Akron Ohio.  He graduated with the class of 1952 from Medina High School.  He served honorably in the Army.  He distinguished himself as a machinist for Manifold Specialists, Hydromatic and as an inspector with Autonetics, a division of North American Aviation in Downey CA.   He enjoyed the role of gentleman farmer.  Being a renaissance man of many talents, he personally remodeled the family home, a century farmhouse with loving care.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 16th from 2:00 – 4:00PM, and 6:00 – 8:00PM at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress St (Route 539), West Salem OH.  The funeral will be officiated by Pastor Delbert Kettering at 11:00AM on Friday, July 17th  at Matteson Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mohican Church of the Brethren Cemetery.  In appreciation for their professional service, memorial donations can be sent to:
