Esther Rose (Martinez) Newman

Esther Rose Newman, 86 of West Salem died Wednesday morning at her daughter’s home in Mt. Gilead.

She was born December 22, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Juan and Rose (Rodriguez) Martinez. Esther married David Newman March 30, 1956.He preceded her in death on July 24, 1982. She retired in 2019 from Johnson Brothers Rubber Company in West Salem after 39 ½ years of service where she was an assembler.

Esther was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, baking, and flower gardening.

Esther is survived by her children; David Newman Jr. (JoAnne Dlouhy), Armando Newman, Deborah (Frank) Majewski and Tracey (Randy) Culver, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters; Delores Torres and Sadie Gomez and brothers; Arthur and Mario Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her husband; David, her son: Anthony Newman, parents and siblings: Gabriel Martinez, her twin; Eddie Martinez and Delia Cavilla.

Visitation for Esther will start at 12:00 PM prior to the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM on Friday August 30, 2024 at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will be in West Salem Cemetery.
