Eric D Mendenhall-Stone

August 24, 1987 — November 21, 2012

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Eric D. Mendenhall-Stone, 25, 1119 Sterling Place, Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Wooster, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.
He was born Aug. 24, 1987 in Orrville, the son of Penny Mendenhall-Stone and Thomas E. Stone and was a 2006 graduate of Wooster High School. He studied philosophy at Purchase College, Purchase, N.Y., graduating in 2010. He received the Humanities Department Award for Best Essay in 2008, a remarkable achievement for an underclassman.
Eric was an articulate communicator, creative and talented musician and one who appreciated the arts. He impacted the lives of those who knew him through his intellect, creativity and delightfully wry humor.
He worked as a freelance, self-taught web designer, SEO and e-marketer, but was most proud of his ability to mix music and DJ for the entertainment of his friends. His musical knowledge and curiosity were an inspiration to many. His collection of vinyl was cherished.
Eric loved cats, corduroys, cooking and burying himself in his philosophy books. He was a sensitive, gentle spirit who lived simply, loved loyally, thought deeply and gave of  himself generously. He was a formative figure in the lives of many and will be greatly missed by family and friends who treasured his unique ways and positive energy.
Surviving are his mother, Penny Mendenhall-Stone of Wooster; paternal grandparents, Reed and Janet Stone of Nankin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Stone; and maternal grandparents, H.J. and Ida May Mendenhall of Congress.
Memorial services will be Thursday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at Congress Community Church, with pastor Christopher Cottrel officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 6-9 p.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem. On-line obituary and condolences may be shared at www.mattesonfh.com.
Memorial contributions may be made to (ARTS) Wayne Center for the Arts, 237 S. Walnut St., Wooster 44691; or (CATS) David and Kathy Thompson, 447 Woodland Ave., Wooster 44691.
