Eleanor V. Kiczek Ziebro Roe
Eleanor V. Roe, 89, of Homerville passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at home with her son by her side. She was born March 21, 1924 to Joseph and Nellie Kiczek and grew up on the Kiczek farm in West Salem.
She joins the love of her life, Richard Ziebro, and her kind, loving second husband, Harley Roe. She is reunited with her parents, Joseph and Nellie Kiczek; siblings Walter (Jeannette) Kiczek, Stanley (Martha) Kiczek, Florence (Robert) Gliebe, and Edward (Betty survives) Kiczek. Eleanor’s guiding light will be shining upon her children, Charlene (Kent) Krone, Larry (Karen) Ziebro, Eloise (Jim) Thistlewaite, and Jack (Elsie) Ziebro. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jenny Alexander, Travis (Evelyn) Ziebro, Monique (Jon) Huskisson, Bill (Brenda) Cross, Nicole Edwards, Tessa Edwards, John Ziebro, Tom Ziebro, Mark Ziebro, and great grandchildren Tessa Cross, Noelle Cross, and Meagan Cross. She also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Eleanor and Richard made their home in Homerville where she raised her family. A tragic accident took Richard’s life changing her life path for herself and family forever.
Being widowed at a young age and while raising four young children, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Business from Ashland University and later earned a Masters of Education from the University of Akron. She taught at Homerville Grade School for one year and Cloverleaf Senior High School for 25 years, producing many award winning students in Business Office Education.
Eleanor loved her life with Harley. They traveled, enjoyed gardening, cared for their beloved dogs, enjoyed performances involving her family, remodeled an old house where they made their home, participated in Medina DAV and the Marine Corp League, was a leader of the West Salem Senior Citizens, a member of the Homerville Alumni Association, belonged to Ladies Guild, and attended St. Stephen Catholic Church where her family was one of the founding members. After her retirement she loved to share her talents as a volunteer and loved all people as was evident through her teaching GED classes, literacy, and other classes through the County Extension Service to improve other’s lives. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Eleanor was genuinely kind to everyone, young and old. She and Harley hosted the best New Year’s Eve parties and get-togethers at their house. She enjoyed having company and could create a delicious meal in a moment’s notice. She enjoyed countless hours at Harley’s side in his machine shop and found inspiration in their woods. In their later years, Eleanor took care of him during his lengthy illness.
Eleanor dedicated her life to her family, friends, and her faith. Now we must find the strength to let her go so she can fulfill God’s promise of an everlasting life with her family and friends in Heaven.
