In Loving Memory of Donald Cherry
Donald Cherry, 66, of Wooster, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on September 19, 2025, at Life Care Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 25, 1958, Don was a proud 1977 graduate of Northwestern High School. On September 23, 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Smith, and together they shared nearly 47 wonderful years of marriage. Their greatest joy was the family they built, including their two children, Tera (Wes) Martin and Brent (Tiffany) Cherry.
For more than 40 years, Don served as safety director at Wooster Motor Ways, where his dedication and leadership touched many lives. Yet his proudest accomplishments were found at home. Don loved hunting, golfing, and coaching baseball and softball, but nothing compared to the happiness he felt watching his grandchildren play the sports they loved.
Don’s grandchildren—Sera Martin, Anna Martin, Dylan Martin, Madelyn Cherry, Kelsee Smith, Kaylee Cherry, Jacelyn Cherry, and Chase Smith—and his great-grandchildren, Maverick Martin, Kolson Cosmo, and Myles Martin, were truly the light of his life.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and the way he could bring laughter to any room. Don is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; his father, Eldon Cherry Jr.; his brothers, Jeff (Linda) Cherry and Steve (Loretta) Cherry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Cherry.
Though his passing leaves a great void, Don’s legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don’s name to Life Care Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
Friends may call Tuesday September 23 at Matteson Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral will be Wednesday September 24 at 11am at Northwinds church Pastor Dave Purdy officiating.
