David G. Howman

David G. Howman, 85, of Wooster, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2026, in Wooster. He was born on July 4, 1941, in New Pittsburg, Ohio, to True and Alice (Glasgow) Howman.

David graduated from Northwestern High School in 1959. In 1960, he served in the Army Reserve, where he received a sharpshooter award. He went on to build a long and respected career as a state-certified electrical contractor. He owned his own company with his brother, Howman Brothers Electric, and retired after 45 years of work.

He was a member of West Salem United Methodist Church and was active in the Ohio Two Cylinder Club, where he served as a past director and officer. David was a dedicated John Deere collector and restorer, and at one time owned more than 25 tractors. He showed for more than 20 years at the Wayne County Fair, won many slow-tractor trophies, and was also a former pie-eating contest winner. In 2016, he brought the Eastern National Expo to Wooster. He also loved to fish and hunt, enjoying the outdoors and the pursuits that brought him so much happiness.

On June 9, 1962, he married Kathleen Howman (nee Messmore), and together they shared many years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his daughter, Theresa Pete and her husband Lance; his daughter-in-law, Linda Howman, and her husband, Doug McClure; his grandchildren, Rachelle Howman and her husband, Blake, Nick Howman and his wife, Abby, and Phillip Howman; his great-grandson, Lincoln Howman; his brother, Lester Howman; and his brother-in-law, Alvin Reisinger. He will be remembered with love by his family and by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, True and Alice (Glasgow) Howman; by his son, Edward Howman; and by his siblings, True Duane Howman, Twila Lewis, and Bonnie Reisinger.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Street, West Salem. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Street, West Salem, OH 44287. Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at West Salem Cemetery, Depot Street, West Salem.

David G. Howman will be remembered for his years of hard work, his devotion to family, his love of tractors and the outdoors, and the many interests that brought joy to his life and to those around him.
