Darlena Sue (Goff) Mettler
September 18, 1954 — September 1, 2013
Darlena (Tui) Sue (Goff) Mettler fell asleep on September 1, 2013, and woke up a short time later in Heaven, to be greeted by her husband, her Mother, her brother, her sister-in-law , and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be missed by all who loved her, but we know she is no longer in pain.
Darlena was born in Charleston, WV on Sept. 18, 1954 to Rev. Harold and Betty Goff. She attended first through sixth grade at Midway Elementary School on Campbells Creek, and then the family moved to Ohio, where she graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1972. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education from the Clarksville School of Theology in Clarksville, TN.
Darlena was a sweet Christian girl who served the Lord faithfully all her life. She and her two sisters and their friend Bonnie sang in church together as teenagers.
On Feb 3, 1978, Darlena married Rev. Daniel Mettler. She and her husband Dan served the Lord together in churches in Lorain, OH; Riverside, CA; and Loudonville, OH. Darlena was a Christian school teacher, a Sunday School teacher, and a Junior Church teacher. She loved working in Vacation Bible School. Darlena was a loving pastor’s wife, and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family.
She was a founding member of the Country View Baptist Church in Sullivan, OH, and served as their secretary since the church started in 2005.
She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel Mettler, her mother Betty Goff, her brother Ed Goff and his first wife Susan Goff.
She is survived by her son Jeremiah Mettler of Wooster, OH, his wife Heather, and their three children, Arielle, Haylie, and Brock; her father Rev. Harold Goff of Charleston, WV, her brother Marvin (and Gwen) Goff of Campbells Creek, WV; her sister Char (and Rev. Bruce) Smith of Sullivan, OH; her sister Marlena Goff of Sullivan, OH; her brother Rev. Glen (and Penny) Goff of Sullivan, OH; her brother Mark (and Bobbie) Goff of Wooster, OH, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Viewing hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 from 6 -8 PM at Country View Baptist Church, 557 State Route 224 in Sullivan, OH. The funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at Country View Baptist Church. Burial will be at Ashland Memorial Park. Matteson Funeral Home of West Salem is handling the arrangements.
