West Salem

Christopher Robert Humphrey, age 64, of the West Salem, Ohio, passed away on July 24, 2026. He was born on January 10, 1962.

Chris grew up in the West Salem area and spent many years working as a drywall finisher before retiring from the 435 Cleveland Carpenters union. He was a hard worker who took pride in his trade and believed in doing things the right way.

Chris was a one-of-a-kind person who lived life on his own terms. He was known for his loud personality, quick wit, fast talking, and his ability to make an impression wherever he went. He enjoyed classic rock, cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals, attending concerts, and riding his Harley.

Chris loved being outdoors and enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, and riding his motorcycle any chance he had. He especially loved taking long rides with his wife, Rebecca, with her riding behind him as they explored new places and made memories together.

Chris had a passion for finding hidden treasures. Whether it was a garage sale, thrift store, flea market, or something sitting on the side of the road, he enjoyed finding a good deal and restoring old items. He often joked that things were made better "back when quality mattered more than quantity."

Chris shared more than 15 years with his wife, Rebecca Canfield, before they were married in 2020. Together, they built a life full of love, adventure, and resilience. They supported each other through life's challenges, including overcoming addiction together, and remained each other's best friend and biggest supporter.

Chris also had a special bond with the cats he and Rebecca shared—Oscar, Rue, and Sylvester. Everyone knew Rue was his cat, and their personalities were a perfect match.

Chris is survived by his wife, Rebecca Humphrey; his sister, Shelly Tucker; his daughters, Brandi and Brittany; his stepdaughters, Allison and Kyra, as well as his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren, who will carry on his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, including his mother, who passed away in December 2025.

Chris's life wasn't perfect, but it was real, full, and unapologetically his own. He will be remembered for his big personality, his love of adventure, his determination, and the many memories he created with the people who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Drake Park August 29th, starting at 3:00pm; Chris will be cremated, with a burial to be planned at a later date. More details will be shared.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Matteson Funeral Home , P. O. Box 314, West Salem, Ohio 44287 to assist the family with final expenses. The Matteson Funeral Home staff is honored to serve Chris's family and the community. If you would like to share a photo or memory of Chris with the family, please do so at mattesonfh.com.

If Chris had one last thing to say, it would probably be to take the ride, stop at the garage sale, turn the music up a little louder, and don't waste time waiting for tomorrow.
