Charles Darrell Adkins

Charles Darrell Adkins, 87, of West Salem died on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Charles was born October 19, 1936 in Widen, West Virginia to parents Bayless and Carlie (Lewis) Adkins.

Charles married Ruby (Dorean Smith) on November 30, 1957. She survives.

He retired from the US Air Force on October 1,1976 after he had served proudly for 20 years. Charles then worked for Gerstenslager Company in Wooster, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable and flower gardening and tinkering around his home.

Charles is survived by his wife; Ruby (Dorean), children; Linda (Randy) Leasure of South Carolina, Jeff (Donna) Adkins of West Salem, Diane (Heather) Adkins of Florida and Kathy Alaura of West Salem, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a brother; Homer (Joyce) Adkins.

He was preceded in death by a daughter; Carolyn Edwards, parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, Ohio with Pastor Paul Bartholomew officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial in Congress Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Post 499 of West Salem.
