Bud O Spies

Bud Spies (91) of Polk, Ohio passed away on October 17, 2024. He was born on June 27, 1933 and was the son of Clarence and Minnie Bell (Gern) Spies. Bud was one of 11 siblings who were raised in a home centered around joy and laughter. Bud was married to his sweetheart Joan (Toots) Taylor on June 2, 1952 and happily shared 40 years of marriage until Joan passed away in November of 1991.

Bud worked for Invalex, a manufacturer of hospital equipment in Lodi, Ohio. The company became Invacare and later relocated to Elyria, Ohio.

Bud loved music and played harmonica and guitar. He always carried a harmonica in his pocket for impromptu requests. His main hobby after retirement was restoring classic tractors.

He was predeceased by brothers Clair (Bob), Jack, Floyd (Dan), James (Ted), and sisters Alice (Peg) Daniels, Wilma (Curley) Hathaway, Geraldine (Jiggs) Baker, Rose Coudret and Darlene (Dot) Minniear.

He is survived by children Regina Ganocy (Carl) and John Spies (Shelli), sister Joy (Pat) Rogers, grandchildren Heather Jameyson-Henry (Jim), Shane Spies (Bailee), Lainy Sloan (Spencer) and 6 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Keegan, Austin, Brantley, Arwen and Silas.

Bud’s ashes will be buried in Mallet Creek Cemetery next to his wife Joan. There will be no funeral service but there will be a Celebration of Life for him on November 16, 2024 from 2-5 pm at Litchfield Town Hall, 9256 Norwalk Road, Litchfield, Ohio 44253. All are welcome.
