Barry Lee Hunter 71 of West Salem died April 10, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with an illness.
He was born on August 20, 1954 in Lynchburg, Virginia to parents Arthur and Doris (Wood) Hunter.
Barry retired from Plastipak in Medina and Sheetz in Burbank after many years of service.
Barry was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Brenda, for 38 beautiful years. Their love was unwavering and deeply rooted—he adored her, stood by her through all of life’s moments, and their bond was a true example of lifelong partnership and commitment.
He was a proud father to his four children and being a family man was his greatest joy. He found happiness in the simple, meaningful moments—time spent together, laughter shared, and the comfort of being surrounded by those he loved most.
He was incredibly strong and faced his illnesses with quiet toughness, resilience, and grace. Even on the hardest days, his courage never wavered, and his love for his family remained constant.
He believed deeply in the value of hard work and lived that belief every day. He led by example, showing us the importance of dedication, responsibility, honoring your word, and taking pride in everything you do.
He had the kindest heart and a gift for connecting with others. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them feeling like a lifelong friend. He saw the good in everyone and reminded us to do the same.
He was especially proud of his 10 grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. His love for them ran deep, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend with them. Being “Dad” and “Papa” were the roles he held closest to his heart.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his strength, his compassion, his strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. We are forever grateful for the time we shared and the memories we will carry with us always.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Barry is survived by his wife; Brenda (Mayle)Hunter, son; Stephen (Mandy) Hunter, daughters; Stephanie (Colton) Brummage, Stacy (Steven) Bucklew and Stacia Hunter (Tyler) Heifner, grandchildren Braden Gump, Allie Hunter, Gracie Heifner, Dylan Hunter, Kane Heifner, Izzy Hunter, Brantley Fraley, Kylie Brummage, Emily Bucklew and Macie Brummage, sisters; Donna Hunter Moore and Karen Hunter Wade both of Virginia, Ruth (Harry) Acheson of Indiana and Peggy Little of North Carolina and a brother; Brian Keith (Tammy) Hunter of Virginia and a host of many nieces and nephews.
