Charles Boatner Obituary

Charles “Gene” Eugene Boatner, 89 of Wooster went home to be with Jesus and join his wife Marilyn on Thursday December 20, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.

 

He was born June 3, 1929, the son of Thomas E & Lillie (Williamson) Boatner, in Texas.  His family moved to Oklahoma shortly after Gene was born before eventually settling in Congress, Ohio. As part of the US Army Gene was stationed in Japan during World War II from 1946-1948.  After his time in the service, he met and later married Marilyn (Yeagley) Boatner on June 3, 1951. They were married for 67 years.  He worked for the Gerstenslager Company for 25 years and then the Rubbermaid Corporation for an additional 18 years, before retiring. 

 

After retirement Gene spent his time traveling with his wife, going to many of his grandchildren’s events, and supporting and visiting his family. 

 

He is survived by his children Gail (Robin) Shell, Cherri (Steve) Doerfler, Tammy (Dave) Hoff, Troy (Chris) Boatner, Jennifer (Kelvin) Bond, a sister, Bonnie Crumley; Many nieces and nephews; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

 

Preceding him in death were his loving wife Marilyn who passed away November 2, 2018; sons Scott, Kenneth, and Todd; siblings  Buel Boatner, Ruby Smith, Winifred Jones, Thomas Boatner, Edna Garner and infant brother, Arthur.

 

A funeral service will take place at West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster on Thursday December 27th at 9:30am.  A graveside service will immediately follow at Congress Cemetery, where military rights will be observed. The family is being served by Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem. Online condolences can be shared at mattesonfh.com.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Todd Boatner Memorial Scholarship c/o Northwestern High School or LifeCare Hospice of Wooster.

 

The family would like to thank extended family, friends, and medical personnel who assisted and supported them through their parents’ passing.
