Roger Wayne Hershey (1939-2024)

Roger Hershey, 84, of West Salem, passed away on April 18th, 2024 at home after almost 17 years after suffering a stroke.

Roger was born in Elyria Aug. 20th, 1939 to parents Carl and Helen (Butdorff) Hershey. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1957. He married the love of his life, Marcia Joy (Rex) on September 10th, 1960. He was a barber for many years and started Hershey’s Painting in the mid 70’s. He attended Congress Community Church.

Roger loved his grandkids and great grandkids and was their biggest sporting fan. He loved playing and coaching fast pitch softball and pitched till he was 50.  He was able to play with his sons and grandson in one game. He loved going to watch his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed playing cards, gambling, eating out with Bob, John, Roy, and former teammates, bowling, chocolate milkshakes, and being a pain to Maw!

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, sons, Spencer (Janet) and Scott (Brenda), and daughter Tracy (Joe) Regan, and grandchildren, Brett (Angie), Eric (Amber) Bower, Brandi (Darrin), Spencer Jr (Chelsea), Logan (Kristen), Raini, and Cierra, step-grandchildren Amanda Kline, Adam Moody, Sherisa (Jeff) Butcher, Shawna (Eric) Hess, and 15 great grandchildren and counting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, brother Don, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  

There will be no calling hours, just a private family graveside service.  A celebration of life will follow this summer at a date to be determined.
