Carl M McQuate

Carl M McQuate, 82 of West Salem, Ohio passed away Monday morning at his home after several years of declining health

   He was born in Lodi, Ohio the son of Paul H. and Dorothy (Briggs) McQuate.  He lived his lifetime in West Salem.  On September 5^th 1956 he married Nora Wuthrich,  who survives.

   He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on Battleship U.S.S. Iowa.  He was a member of the American Legion Post # 499 in West Salem and VFW Post 10148 in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

   He was a tire mechanic for many years for Bennett Tire in Lodi and Winkler Tire in Sterling.  After retirement he was employed by the Village of West Salem as caretaker for the West Salem and Hazzard Cemeteries.  He formerly served as a volunteer Fireman for Town and Country Fire Dept and a term on Board of Public Affairs.

     Carl had many fond family memories at the lake Erie cottage, cooking,  camping, fishing , spending time at their home in  West Virginia, and Yes the party times.

Besides his wife he is survived by daughters, Lynette(Larry)Hines of West Salem, Ohio, Jackie(Tom)Carr of Princeton, Iowa, four grandchildren, Alicia Hines of Hollister, Florida, Bobbie Jo (Justin) Royse of Sicily, Brittany Carr of Princeton, Iowa, Chari(Brandon)Feist of West Salem, a step grandson, Travis Carr of Colorado, great granddaughter, Kortney Jo Royse of Sicily, a brother, Richard(Barbara) McQuate of Estes Park, Colorado and a nephew, Dustin McQuate.

He was preceded by his parents, a  daughter, Deanna Lee,  a son, Patrick Allen and a sister, Phyllisanne Sanford.

A Military Memorial Service will be held at a later date in West Salem Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.  Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at the funeral home website at mattesonfh.com
